Convertible Cars Available to Rent in Paris
Showing 1-1 of 1 carsA convertible car rental in Paris sounds like cruising the boulevards with the top down, but the honest version is different. In town the roof mostly stays up. The open-top earns its keep on the roads out of the city, and that's where we point most renters.
The mileage on our cars is unlimited, so a day on the Normandy coast or a loop through the Fontainebleau forest costs you nothing extra in kilometres. The rest of this page is about deciding whether an open-top fits your trip, and which one to take when it does.
What an open-top is really good for here
Central Paris isn't built for a convertible. The traffic is dense, the streets are tight, parking is scarce and pricey, and the low-emission zone keeps older cars out anyway. With the roof down you mostly crawl along in stop-start traffic. None of that is a reason to skip a convertible. It's a reason to think of it as a car for the day you leave the city, not the day you sit in it.
Beyond the périphérique it's a different story. Open roads, forest, river valleys, and coast sit an hour or two away, and that's where putting the top down is worth it.
Where the roof actually comes down
A few drives out of Paris are worth booking an open-top for. With unlimited mileage you can treat any of them as one long day or stretch it across a weekend without watching a kilometre counter.
- The Fontainebleau forest and its village roads, under an hour south, with shade when you want it and clearings when you don't.
- The Chevreuse valley and the Vexin lanes, west and north-west of the city, quiet and green and made for an unhurried morning.
- The Normandy coast around Deauville and Honfleur, roughly two hours out, where the run along the water is the whole point.
- The Loire and its châteaux, a longer haul but flat and open, and easy with the top down between stops.
Pick by how far you want to go and how much of the day you want behind the wheel. A morning in Chevreuse is a different ask from a Loire run, and the car should follow the trip, not the other way round.
Choosing the right convertible
The convertibles in a regular rental fleet aren't supercars, and for these drives they don't need to be. Our easy open-top is a small Italian cabrio with a fabric roof that folds back in seconds, even at a red light. If that suits the plan, our Fiat 500 rental is where to start: it parks anywhere, sips fuel, and is happy on a country lane or a coast road.
Be honest about space
With the roof folded the boot shrinks, and the back seats suit soft bags better than adults. Two people with light luggage is the realistic load for a small cabrio. If you need four proper seats or a real boot, a convertible is the wrong tool for that trip, and a hardtop will serve you better. If you want something with more presence on a longer drive, it's worth a look at our luxury range for bigger, plusher options.
Timing, weather, and the practical bits
Season decides a lot. From late spring to early autumn your odds of a genuine top-down day are good. Outside that window the roof mostly stays shut, and while a soft-top keeps the rain out, a closed convertible isn't why you booked one. Strong summer sun is the other thing to plan for: with the top down there's no shade, so think about that if children or a long motorway stretch are part of the day.
A soft-top isn't secure, either. Keep valuables in the boot rather than the cabin, and don't leave anything tempting on the seats with the roof down.
How renting a convertible with us works
We bring the car to you. Doorstep delivery means the convertible arrives at your home or hotel, or it can be waiting when you land, with delivery to Charles de Gaulle or Orly. You sign for it, check the roof opens and closes properly, and you're away.
Booking a convertible through gorentcar is also easier on the paperwork than most. We take debit cards, not only credit, and we don't place a large deposit hold on your card while you have the car, which is where a fair few convertible rentals trip people up. Past that, a day out of Paris mostly comes down to the weather.
FAQ — Common Questions Answered.
Is a convertible practical for driving in central Paris?
Not especially, and we wouldn't pretend otherwise. Central traffic is dense and slow, parking is hard to find, and the low-emission zone restricts older cars, so the roof tends to stay up in town. A convertible from Paris makes far more sense as a car for day trips out of the city. If your plan is mostly central sightseeing, a smaller hardtop, or no car at all, is usually the better call.
Can I take the convertible out of Paris on a road trip?
Yes, and that's what most people use one for. The mileage on our cars is unlimited, so a run to the Normandy coast or down to the Loire doesn't cost you extra per kilometre. Plan your stops and your roof time around the forecast, and a full day or a weekend works comfortably. Just allow for heavier traffic on the main routes out on summer weekends.
How many people and how much luggage fit in a small cabrio?
Realistically, two people and soft luggage. With the roof folded the boot loses space, and the rear seats in a small convertible like a Fiat 500C suit bags or a short hop more than two adults for a day out. If you're travelling as a family or carrying real luggage, a convertible is the wrong choice, and a hardtop will serve you better. Match the car to the trip rather than squeezing the trip into the car.
When is the best time of year for an open-top near Paris?
Late spring to early autumn gives you the best odds of a genuine top-down day. Outside that window the roof mostly stays closed, and while a soft-top keeps the rain out, you booked the car to open it. High summer brings strong sun with no shade up top, so think about that on long stretches or with children aboard. Spring and early autumn often land in the sweet spot of warm days and quieter roads.
Do I need a credit card, and can you deliver the car?
You don't need a credit card with us. We accept debit cards as well, and we don't place a large deposit hold on your card while the convertible is out, which is a common sticking point with open-top rentals elsewhere. We also deliver to your home, your hotel, or either airport, so there's no rental desk to find when you arrive. You sign for the car, check the roof opens and closes, and you're set.
