Car Rental in Châtillon, South of Paris

Châtillon sits just south of the Périphérique at Porte de Châtillon, where the A6a begins as a free stretch of motorway toward Orly and the A10. Where the car waits: driveways, garages and Châtillon's streets

Central Paris runs short on private parking. Châtillon doesn't, not entirely. The western side of town, around the Roissy and Marcel Doret neighbourhoods, is mostly pavillon housing, older stone-built houses set back from the road with a driveway or a garage door. If that's your address, tell us and we'll deliver the car straight there. No permit to check, no meter to feed.

Closer to the centre, around Avenue de Paris and the République district, the buildings look more like Paris: apartment blocks with little or no on-site parking. For those addresses the car usually waits on the street, which means dealing with Châtillon's own parking rules rather than anything you'd have read about for central Paris. And if you're arriving by métro rather than by house key, Châtillon-Montrouge is the southern end of Line 13, so we can meet you at the station forecourt just as easily as at a front door.

Châtillon runs its own parking rules, not Paris's

Assume nothing carries over from a Paris rental. Châtillon is its own commune, and it sets its own tariffs and zones. The town is split into a red zone, paid from 9am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and capped at three hours, and a green zone allowing up to 11 hours in the same window. Visitor rates in the red zone run to around 2 euros an hour, well under the 6 euros charged in central Paris's most expensive zone. Parking is free on Sundays, public holidays and right through August.

A resident permit gets you a lower rate in the red zone and a weekly green-zone subscription, registered in person at the Maison Blanche car park on Avenue de Paris. That's built for people who live here full time rather than a short rental, but it explains why you'll see cars parked long-term on streets where a visitor is capped at three hours. Check the signage on your block before you leave the car for the day. Châtillon enforces the cap with the same forfait post-stationnement system used across the country, and an unpaid notice becomes a 30 euro fine, reduced to 20 euros if it's settled within 72 hours.

The low-emission zone reaches this far south

Châtillon sits inside the Boulevard Périphérique's A86 ring, which puts it inside the Métropole du Grand Paris's low-emission zone, the ZFE. That's been the case since June 2021, and since January 2025 the restriction has covered Crit'Air 3 vehicles too: diesels registered before 2011 and petrol cars from before 2006. The ban runs Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm; evenings, weekends and public holidays are unrestricted. Every car in our fleet carries a Crit'Air 1 or 2 sticker already fitted, so this is one rule you won't have to think about here.

The A6a puts Orly and the A10 a few minutes away

Porte de Châtillon is where the A6a starts, right at the southern edge of the Périphérique, and the stretch down to Wissous is free, run by the state rather than a toll operator. Orly is around 15 minutes down that road in normal traffic, and you'll clear the airport exit before you'd hit a single toll gantry. Further on, the A6a merges into the A6 and A10 toward Rungis, Orléans and beyond, where tolls do start once you're well clear of the city.

Going the other way, into central Paris, means the Périphérique, and that's where the traffic sits, not the A6a. Give yourself more time on a weekday evening than the map suggests.

If you're making an Orly run with hand luggage, a compact does the job. Loading up for a weekend away, or picking up flat-pack furniture from one of the retail parks off the A6a, is where an estate earns its keep. Either way, the car starts close: Porte de Châtillon is a few minutes from most addresses in town, and there's no drive into Paris just to collect it.
