What the Galaxy actually swallows
With five aboard and the third row folded, the Galaxy is a luggage room on wheels: airport runs, buggies, ski bags, a family's full holiday kit go in without tetris. With all seven seats up, the picture changes, and this is the sentence that saves arguments at handover: seven adults fit, but their luggage largely doesn't. Behind a fully occupied third row you're down to soft bags and coats.
So the honest sizing works like this. Two adults and three or four children with holiday luggage: perfect, the children take the back rows and the boot stays useful. Six or seven adults with a weekend bag each: fine for the château day trip, tight for the airport-to-Alps migration. Seven adults with seven suitcases: stop, you're the switch case below.
Size down, size up
Down first. Four or five people whose problem is luggage rather than seats don't need seven seats at all. The Citroën C4 SpaceTourer at 94 € a day gives MPV space for five and saves 48 € a day over the Galaxy, and the 308 SW estate at 86 € does it with less height to park.
Up is the counterintuitive one, because it's also cheaper. The Paris practicalities
The Galaxy's height is its quiet superpower here: unlike vans and high minibuses, it drops into underground car parks, which in central Paris is the difference between parking and circling. Its Crit'Air sticker keeps the low-emission zone open as the rules stand in mid-2026. Child seats for different ages can be added at booking, which for the classic two-plus-three family is usually the whole reason the third row exists.
Book earlier than you would for a small car. We say this about most of the fleet in summer, but seven-seaters have their own calendar: they vanish before every French school holiday, not just in August, because local families book them for the same weeks you're flying in. The Galaxy's sweet spot is five or six travellers, or a family whose third-row passengers are children with children's luggage.
Can a 7-seater park in Paris underground car parks?
Yes, and this is the Galaxy's biggest advantage over anything van-based: it sits under the 1.90 m height barrier that guards most underground parking in Paris, so it parks where an ordinary car parks. If your trip is city-centre heavy with hotel garages involved, that single fact usually decides between the Galaxy and a minibus, whatever the seat count says.
Is it cheaper to rent two small cars instead of one 7-seater?
Almost never, once you run it honestly. Two 208s cost 124 € a day against the Galaxy's 142 €, but you double fuel, double péage tolls and double parking, and the convoy splits at the first missed exit. The two-car option only wins when the group itself splits, different day trips from the same base, and then it's a feature, not a saving.
Can you fit child seats for different ages?
Yes, approved seats for different age and weight ranges are added at booking, and adding them then rather than at handover is what guarantees they're in the car on the day. How far ahead should I book a 7-seater in Paris?
Ahead of the French school calendar, not just the summer. Seven-seaters are the most seasonal cars in the fleet because Paris families and arriving visitors want them for identical weeks: February break, Easter, July, August, All Saints, Christmas. Two to four weeks ahead is usually safe outside those windows. Inside them, book when the dates are fixed and use the free cancellation if plans change.
