The only DS 3 in our fleet
The 1.2-litre PureTech makes 130 hp and reaches 100 km/h in about 9.1 seconds, which feels quicker than it reads because the eight-speed automatic keeps the engine where the torque is. There's no manual version to choose between, and for Paris that's the right call anyway. Between the lights on the boulevards and the crawl on the périphérique at six in the evening, a clutch pedal earns you nothing.
Ours is petrol only. DS builds an electric E-Tense, but we don't stock it, so if you specifically want to move around the city on battery power, the electric e-2008 we rent sits on the same platform and does that job instead. The DS 3 you get from us runs on petrol, goes out full and comes back full, and carries a Crit'Air 1 sticker, so the low-emission zone rules that catch older cars on weekdays don't apply to it.
Small enough for the streets it was built for
At 4.12 metres the DS 3 fits a standard Paris bay with room to open the door, and it drops into the underground car parks around the Louvre and the 8th without the careful shuffling a full-size SUV needs. That's the practical argument for this car over a bigger premium SUV. You get the raised seat and the finish, and you keep a footprint you can actually park at nine on a Saturday night.
The styling does cost you something. The rear side windows are small, the pillars behind them are thick, and over your right shoulder there isn't much to see. Reversing into a space on a one-way street in the Marais, you'll use the camera and the sensors rather than the mirror, and after a day that stops feeling odd.
One handover detail worth knowing before you stand in the street looking annoyed: the door handles sit flush with the body and pop out when the car unlocks. Press the key, give it a second, and they come to you.
How much actually fits in the back
The boot holds 350 litres and has a lip at the mouth, so heavy cases get lifted in rather than slid. Two large suitcases won't stand upright in there. What does work is one large case laid flat with two cabin bags beside it, or three cabin cases and a couple of soft holdalls. The rear bench splits 60/40, and dropping one side takes long items while still leaving a rear seat.
Behind that, the back seats are honest for two adults across town and tight for two adults over two hours. Knee room disappears behind a tall driver, and the panoramic glass roof takes a centimetre or so out of the headroom. A couple with a weekend of luggage, or two adults with two small children and the usual city clutter, both fit fine. Four adults heading to Normandy with cases do not.

The rate starts at €118 a day and it includes unlimited mileage, basic comprehensive insurance, and delivery to your address. We hold no deposit, so nothing sits frozen on your card for the length of the rental. The daily figure moves with how long you keep the car and with the season, and August is the month that goes tight on a premium compact, so fixed dates are worth booking early.
On any quote you compare, ours included, the number that decides the real cost is the insurance excess rather than the headline rate. A cheaper day rate with a €1,200 hold and a high excess is not the cheaper rental. Getting the keys

Will two large suitcases fit in the boot?

I am 22 and passed my test two years ago. Can I rent the DS 3?
Yes, you clear both requirements. The minimum age on this car is 21 and you need to have held your licence for at least 12 months. The licence has to be valid in France and in the main driver's name, and the payment card has to match that name. If your licence is not written in the Latin alphabet, bring an international permit alongside it.
Is there a mileage limit if I drive out of Paris?
No. Mileage is unlimited on the DS 3, so a day out to Giverny, Chartres or the Normandy coast costs you nothing beyond fuel. Take the DS 7 if there are four of you, you are carrying real luggage, or you will spend hours on the motorway, where the extra length and the 225 hp engine change how the drive feels. The difference is €28 a day, so around €196 over a week, which is money worth spending with four adults on board and money worth saving with two. Both come with unlimited mileage and no deposit.
